Heavy rainfalls and (flash) flooding in Puglia, Italy – October 7, 2013

Strong maintaining multicell storms stroke region of Puglia in southern Italy this morning, brought very high rain accumulations and flash floods within the MDT risk area of Day 1 Outlook 7/10/2013. Locally, 80-150mm have fallen in less than 12hrs (147mm in Felline, 145mm in Gallipoli, 128mm in Maglie), while accumulations in parts of Salento have exceeded 200mm in the last 24 hours. Several towns and villages have reported flooded houses.

Currently, intense training effect cells are still on going over Puglia region as can be seen on satellites, a multicell cluster of storms should continue to bring additional heavy rains and rising waters locally.
