Europe is still divided in two halfs with much cooler temps across W Europe and hot weather further ESE with deep trough over W Europe and an intense ridge over ESE Europe. Much of south, central and eastern Europe will experience well above average day with extremely hot temperatures locally. A cooler period remains across western amd northern Europe in the wake of the troughs.

Today, the highest temperatures are again expected across parts of Italy and Balkan peninsula, while the Iberian peninsula and southern France can expect slightly cooler weather than yesterday as trough made some slight progress eastwards and mixed down the temps a bit. However, peak temperatures in the eastern Po plain (N Italy) are expected to reach 38-42 °C, together with locally high dewpoints near 25°C – so very high Heat Index! Some parts of south-central Italy and Sardinia also expect temperatures in range 37-41 °C locally! The Pannonian basin, including Hungary, E Croatia, N Serbia and W Romania are also expected to reach up to 35-39 °C, while some interuption with storms from the Alps should limit peak time heating in the afternoon. Also very hot in parts of southern Balkans and W Turkey, going up to 40 °C locally again.

Looking ahead, an intense heat wave should continue over the weekend into early next week. A break in this pattern is likely by mid next week when a trough will be pushed into central Europe and ridge moves into SE Europe. Expect 6-12°C too warm daily temps in many areas until then, locally heat records could be broken.
