The western Alps of northwestern Italy, southeastern France and extreme southern Switzerland received enormous amounts of fresh snow over the past few days. As expected, a persistent cutoff low over the western Mediterranean produced strong stau effect snowfall over the western Alps, with up to 2-3 m snowfall over two to three days!
