A new big wave of Saharan dust for SE Europe and the eastern-central Mediterranean today and tomorrow – March 21, 2018

A new wave of Saharan dust is coming into southeastern Europe and the E-CNTRL Mediterranean today and tomorrow.

A cutoff low is located in the central Mediterranean and CNTRL-S Italy. Ahead of the low, strong southerly Scirocco winds blow large amounts of Saharan dust, mostly from Lybia, into eastern-central Mediterranean and southeastern Europe. See maps by University of Athens SKIRON model below for dust load in the atmosphere over the next two days. A similar dust wave affected Greece last weekend, producing hazy, dusty skies.

In particular, note the big amount of Saharan dust being pushed into Crete and Rhodes islands late on Thursday!
