Severe Weather Outlooks FAQ

SYNOPSIS

Low geopotential heights persist across much of Europe with several upper lows embedded. One is over N UK, the second one of W Russia while two waves cross N Mediterranean and Turkey. Ridging is strengthening over the Azores and Scandinavia.

SLGT risk has been issued for NW Italy and parts of N Balkans with threat for isolated severe storms, capable of producing large hail and torrential rainfall. Rather slow-moving storms are expected, fueled by moderate MLCAPE and marginal shear. Flash floods and hail accumulations are locally possible.



ENH / SLGT risks has been issued for NE Turkey and Georgia with threat for severe storms, capable of producing severe winds, large to very large hail and torrential rainfall. Scattered organized storms including supercells are expected within a moderately sheared and unstable environment. Waterspout threat exists across the far E Black Sea coasts as well.

SLGT risk has been issued for NW Russia with threat for severe storms, capable of producing severe winds, torrential rainfall and large hail.

TSTM risk areas have been placed where convective storms are likely to occur but should remain sub-severe.
