Severe windstorm for Ireland, Scotland and North Sea on Friday, Dec 7th

A potentially severe windstorm is shaping up across western Europe for this Friday, Dec 7th. The strongest winds will likely be across Ireland and Scotland, and across the north Sea and NW Germany / Denmark as a deep cyclone travels across Scotland towards Denmark. Peak gusts could locally reach 150 km/h.

The pattern indicates a strong ridge across the SW Europe with a deep trough developing a deep cyclone over the N Atlantic. Cyclones crosses the northern parts of British Isles on Friday and moves into Denmark on Saturday.

6-hour sequence of the deep cyclone track. It develops near Ireland late Thursday night, travels north towards Scotland, then makes a sharp turn east across Scotland and pushes towards Denmark on Saturday.

Accumulated peak wind gusts until Saturday – all models agree severe to extremely severe winds gusts will be possible, locally reaching 130-150 km/h and even higher at higher elevations. Wind damage is possible.
