The new complex sunspot group AR 1882 that has just rotated into view over the eastern solar limb produced a strong impulsive X1.4 flare this morning at 8:01 UTC. The blast was not Earth-directed.

This flare and sunspot group are not connected with sunspot group AR 1877, which produced a major M9 flare on October 24. An update on that event will be posted later this afternoon.
