A major waterspout outbreak swept across the Rhodes island, Greece on October 1 and 2, 2013. At least 22 waterspouts have been reported over the two days during and after the cold front passage. The outbreak was caused by very steep low level temperature lapse rates, as the Mediterranean sea surface temperatures on Rhodes are still around 24 °C. Several waterspouts were caught by witnesses on photos and videos. Steve Kasedakis reports 2 waterspouts and a further funnel cloud in Rhodes harbour on the morning of October 2.
