Tennis ball size hail in Monovar, Spain – October 4, 2013

Very large hail (6cm in diameter) has been reported from supercell thunderstorms crossing eastern Spain on October 4th, 2013 afternoon. Severe storms were forming along the cold front as it has been already noted in news report yesterday. As it can be seen on the VIS satellite imagery and animations, storms were clearly showing overshooting tops which usually means (very) large hail is likely to occur with these storms.

This is the photo of large hailstones that were reported in Monovar, Alicante, Spain.

SWE had a MDT risk issued for eastern Spain and southern France.
