High rainfall accumulations over NE Italy and NW Croatia – Oct 10, 2013

Torrential rain and very high rainfall accumulations occured yesterday across the northern Adriatic region within the MDT risk area of Day 1 Outlook 10/10/2013. A strong SW mid-level jet was maintaining convective cells organized into lines with training effect ongoing from the Friuli region plains into the mountainous terrain of the southern Alpine flank, as well as from the gulf of Kvarner (Croatia) inland. As can be seen from the Fossalon radar 24h accumulation below, 150 to more than 200 mm accumulated locally.
