Cutoff low and a strong line of thunderstorms approaching Greece – March 7 (15:00 UTC)
The frontal system we already reported on in the morning has moved southeas and is now approaching W Greece. It is producing some very impressive lightning rates, between 50 and 65 lightning pulses per minute!
By early afternoon nearly 30 000 lightning pulses had been observed over the central Mediterranean! That is a very impressive number for early March.
Main threats with this system are severe wind gusts, large hail, torrential rainfall and tornadoes. The area was included in the MDT risk area in today’s Severe Weather Outlook.
