Three tornadoes were reported in the Netherlands yesterday afternoon. The tornadoes formed in a low cape, high shear environment with low-topped supercells. Local sounding reported by Weer.nl shows only 120 J/kg CAPE, equilibrium level at about 5600 m, but a significantly sheared environment with strong veering profile (249 m2/s2 SRH1).

The first tornado of the day formed near Wijk bij Duurstede at 14h UTC. It produced a damage track 2 km long and 60 m wide. The tornado was photographed and recorded by numerous witnesses. No official EF rating has been assigned yet.

Netherlands was part of the SLGT+ risk area of DAY 1 Outlook for 3/11/2013.
