Severe Weather Outlooks FAQ

SYNOPSIS

A deep upper trough / low is centered over WSW Europe while slowly drifting east. Strong upper ridge persists across the N/E Europe, Arctic region and SE Europe. A deep surface cyclone is centered over the British Isles and Ireland while another week low moves across the S Mediterranean.

SLGT risk has been issued for NE Spain into SSW France with threat for severe storms, capable of producing marginally large hail, severe winds and torrential rainfall. Organized storms are likely along the rapidly moving cold front during the afternoon hours as a good overlap of shear in moderate instability exists.

MRGL risk has been issued for E Benelux across central Germany into the W Czech Republic and W Poland with isolated threat for severe storms, capable of producing marginal hail, severe winds and torrential rainfall.

MRGL risk has been issued for the Apennines in central Italy with isolated threat for severe storms, capable of producing marginal hail, strong to severe winds and torrential rainfall.



SLGT risk has been issued for south-central Balkan peninsula with threat for isolated severe storms, capable of producing marginally large hail and torrential rainfall in moderate MLCAPE but weak shear. Hail accumulations and flash floods are possible as well due to slow-moving storms.

SLGT risk has been issued for S Mediterranean for severe storms, capable of producing severe winds, marginal hail and excessive rainfall.

TSTM risk areas have been placed where convective storms are likely to occur but should remain sub-severe.
