Heavy rainfall on convective line in NW Italy – Oct 20, 20:35 UTC

A nearly stationary convective line has formed on a surface convergence in the Ligurian sea, with cells producing heavy precipitation far inland with the strong SW mid-level jet. Heavy rainfall is being observed in Liguria, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany with 12h cumulatives already reaching 120 – 140 mm. Further very intense rainfall is expected for the next 12 hours.

This area has been assigned MDT risk for heavy convective rainfall and flash flooding, tornadoes, severe winds and hail in Day 1 outlook for 20/10/2013.
