Another round of excessive snowfall for western Alps next week?

The western Alps may be in for another round of excessive snowfall next week. Latest GFS model guidance suggests a favourable pattern with a deep trough across the Alpine area.

Latest GFS model guidance suggests a large, deep trough pushing into Europe early next week – a pattern change that signals more unstable weather for the region.

This is a favourable pattern for additional snowfall across the western and southern Alps. Indeed, current GFS model guidance indicates locally more than 100-150 cm of new snow.

This is certainly an interesting possibility, however, as this is still 5-7 days away, model guidance may still change; we will be keeping an eye on further model runs and providing updates.
